Good health is vital for a good life. Being Well Expo Hamilton is a free event that brings your local health practitioners under one roof where you can get the answers you need for better health.
Our own doctor and yogi, Greta Prozesky, is on the organising committee. “When you have your health, you can live out the many desires you have for your life, but when you lose your health, it can be a fight to get it back,” she says.
Greta’s been the local GP in the Coleraine-Casterton area for 16 years and a partner in the Coleraine-Casterton Medical Clinic for seven. She went through her own radical health transformation eight years ago. Greta lost 20kg and reprioritised her wellbeing.
Typical of many doctors, the long hours – 12 hour days are common and you’ll find Greta doing the emergency rounds at the hospital and on call on the weekends – meant her own health suffered. Simple changes to her diet and exercise got her health back on track. She says, “I know I can’t do it all by myself.”
“I utilise a lot of other practitioners in the area: massage therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist, acupuncturist, naturopath,” says Greta, many practitioners she learnt about through her patients. “And lesser known services like kinesiology and reflexology.”
Being Well Expo allows you to explore your health options. There will be people with a focus on all aspects of wellbeing including fitness. Frank will be there to speak to anyone with questions about yoga, the benefits and how to get started.
“You may have heard of acupuncture but the idea of needles scares you,” says Greta. At the expo you can ask your local acupuncturist what’s involved. In fact, it’s a great chance to ask any of your local practitioners whether they are the right person to treat your condition.
“At the expo you’re not committed to signing up to go into a room and have a treatment,” Greta explains. You can start a conversation without any financial commitment.
Greta believes in an integrative approach to health. Her ‘prescription for life’ that doesn’t involve any pills:
- As much fruit and vegetables you can eat in a day
- Include seeds and nuts
- Smile and be thankful
- Stop and take a deep slow breath
“If you don’t make time for health and wellness now, you may find you need to make time for illness later in life,” Greta warns.
